On February 17 (Tuesday), at 10 o'clock, the Almaty City Court will consider the appeal of the lawyers for Bulat Abilov, Assylbeck Kozhakhmetov and Tolen Tokhtassynov on change of the court's jurisdiction (the defendants question jurisdiction of the Medeu District Court).
According to the lawyers, the case should be considered by the Almaly District Court of Almaty. The reasoning for that is that as soon as the investigators cannot determine the place of crime, then - according to the law - the trial should take place where the preliminary investigation was conducted (Almaty city police station, which is situated in the Almaly district).
As we have already reported earlier, the opposition leaders are accused of assisting in rendering political asylum in Ukraine to the persons that are deemed criminals by the Kazakhstani authorities.

In actual fact, we in 2005-07 signed petitions to the Ukrainian immigration bodies with the request to render political asylum to the members of DCK Movement, colleagues and partners of Galymzhan Zhakiyanov, who at that time was imprisoned after the well-known politically motivated trial.
